Signals For 2026
Execution, resilience and ROI take center stage.
Automation, Trade Pressure, and the 2026 Reset
November confirms: execution, not experimentation, is now the driver of industrial impact.
Industrials ended the month with solid orders, infrastructure momentum, and steady movement from pilot to scale in AI, robotics, and smart manufacturing. Major automation raises and infrastructure awards showed operators favouring reliability, payback, and deployment speed.
Consistent execution across these shifts will define the leaders of 2026.
Signals to watch
November surfaced five signals that are shaping industrial execution and indicating where momentum is building.
Automation is moving where ROI is clear.
Investment continued to flow into vertical automation; warehousing, construction robotics, and factory cobots, with operators choosing short payback cycles and predictable deployment over experimentation.
The European Commission reinforced this momentum, urging faster adoption of industrial AI to protect competitiveness. Jeff Bezos’ Project Prometheus likewise signalled rising multi-billion-dollar commitments to AI for the physical economy.
Tariffs are reshaping sourcing decisions.
New metals and commercial‑vehicle tariff schedules, effective 1 November, pushed operators in truck and metal-intensive supply chains to revisit landed-cost assumptions and consider more regionalized supplier strategies.
Energy transition is becoming more operational.
New awards and grants keep advancing clean-energy manufacturing. Global data-centre infrastructure spending continued its climb toward one trillion dollars by 2030 —increasing pressure on power grids and driving investment in transmission, storage, and flexibility.
Connectivity and edge are becoming baseline.
Industrial sites expanded connectivity upgrades to improve uptime and asset visibility. A global Cloudflare outage on 18 November, followed by AWS rolling out new DNS-resilience tools, reinforced that cloud infrastructure can no longer be assumed reliable, highlighting the need for edge, redundancy, and distributed architectures.
Sustainability translates into operational performance.
A recent Siemens report shows industrial AI being deployed at scale to cut energy use and carbon while increasing throughput, shifting sustainability from reporting to an operational cost and margin lever. Meanwhile, the IEA’s Energy Efficiency 2025 report confirms rising demand for energy-efficient designs and operations across the manufacturing sector.
Together, these trends will shape the strategic conversations inside industrial boardrooms in 2026.
Momenta at the Rockwell Automation Fair 2025
Across keynotes, demos, and customer conversations, the direction was unmistakable: software-defined automation, AI-supported operations, and a rapid progression toward autonomy.
Rockwell’s leadership underscored the need to reduce variability and strengthen production resilience, highlighting real-time simulation, digital twins, and self-optimizing systems as core levers. The event made clear that edge intelligence, connected assets, and software-defined operations have moved from aspiration to baseline, setting the expectations that will shape industrial decision-making in 2026.
