The Infrastructure Race
Over the past year, the conversation around AI has moved quickly. What began as a race for model performance expanded into agentic AI, robotics, autonomous systems, sovereign AI, energy, compute, and industrial deployment.
The progression is telling. AI has shown it can do more than answer questions. It can interact with workflows, systems, and operations. But as organizations move from experimentation toward deployment, a different constraint is emerging. Intelligence is no longer the bottleneck. Integration is.
This transition is not unique to AI. The internet existed long before it transformed the economy. What unlocked value was the infrastructure built around it: broadband networks, cloud platforms, protocols, cybersecurity, developer tools, and enterprise integration.
AI now appears to be entering a similar phase. The intelligence exists. What is still being built is the infrastructure required to deploy that intelligence safely, reliably, and at scale across real operating environments.
The challenge is increasingly visible across industry. Google Cloud recently reported that 83% of organizations still require infrastructure upgrades before autonomous systems can move into production.
For industrial operators, this challenge is familiar. The hurdle is rarely proving that a technology works. The challenge is integrating it into environments where reliability, security, interoperability, and continuity are non-negotiable.
