Momenta has led an investment in MatAlytics Ltd, a company redefining how industrial operators understand, monitor, and extend the life of critical assets. MatAlytics applies physics-informed AI to deliver real-time, high-fidelity insight into structural health, enabling faster, more confident decisions across asset-intensive industries.
Industrial operators have long faced a structural trade-off. High-fidelity simulation offers precision, but is slow, expensive, and largely confined to design phases and specialist teams. Real-time monitoring systems operate at speed but often lack physical rigor, thereby eroding trust.
MatAlytics eliminates that compromise. Its CITRUS platform applies physics-informed neural networks to replicate the mechanical behavior of actual materials in real time, combining the accuracy of finite element analysis with the responsiveness required for live operations. In internal benchmarks, models run up to 300,000 times faster than traditional methods while maintaining engineering-grade fidelity.
This enables operators to shift from periodic inspection and conservative assumptions to continuous, evidence-based insight into stress, damage accumulation, and remaining asset life.
From Research to Industrial Deployment
MatAlytics emerged from more than a decade of applied research at the University of Nottingham and has progressed from academic validation to industrial pilots and early commercial deployments.
The company's CITRUS platform is already being evaluated with leading industrial organizations, including EDF, EPRI, and Uniper UK. These engagements focus on fatigue-sensitive, high-value components in power generation and energy infrastructure, where both downtime and over-conservatism incur high costs.
"Most asset failures don't happen because engineers lack models. They happen because those models stop at the design phase, while the asset keeps aging in operation," said Dr Benedikt Engel, CEO and Co-Founder of MatAlytics. "What we've built at MatAlytics brings engineering truth into live decision-making. By combining physics with real operational data, operators can see damage accumulating as it happens and act before risk becomes failure. That shift, from periodic assessment to continuous integrity, is what unlocks both safety and performance."
While many industrial analytics platforms rely on data-driven prediction or offline simulation, MatAlytics operates in a distinct category. Traditional monitoring solutions depend on sparse historical data and black-box models that struggle with rare but catastrophic failure. At the same time, while other physics-based AI approaches focus primarily on accelerating design workflows, they stop short of live operational use.
MatAlytics is already deploying physics-informed AI in real operating environments, where temperature, load, and fatigue continuously affect component integrity. By generating its own high-fidelity simulation data and embedding true mechanical behavior directly into its models, the platform avoids bias, remains robust even when failure data is limited, and delivers real-time insight that operators can trust.
This positions MatAlytics ahead of incumbent monitoring vendors and emerging digital twin providers as industrial markets shift from descriptive analytics toward continuous, decision-grade integrity intelligence.
With a clear path from pilots to recurring SaaS deployments and toward profitability within 4 years, MatAlytics is setting a new benchmark for how industrial assets are monitored, understood, and operated.
"MatAlytics closes the gap between models and machines. They bring the rigor of finite element analysis into a real-time, understandable workflow so that engineers can validate decisions, with speed, traceability, and fidelity." said Jerry O'Gorman, Partner at Momenta. "We are excited to support their journey and help scale their impact globally".
With Momenta's backing, the company is poised to bring real-time engineering truth into day-to-day industrial decision-making, strengthening asset integrity, resilience, and performance at scale.
